Morellino di Scansano D.O.C.G. Riserva
A particular Sangiovese vineyard, situated on Pliocene rock and clay, possesses soil characteristics that give its grapes depth and richness. It is dedicated to production of this Riserva, which also gains identity from the inclusion of selected Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grapes. Perfect ripening qualities mean that the grapes can be fermented by maceration for at least three weeks, followed by transfer to barriques for a period of 18 months. During this ageing process the wood mitigates and softens the exuberance of the wine, and helps to enhance its natural plum and cherry fruitiness with notes of mint and balsam, giving the Riserva its essential character. It is followed by 12 months of bottle ageing in the darkness and controlled temperature of special cellars, where the wine’s character continues to develop.
